Dr. Louis C. Marino

Posted

We are deeply saddened to announce that Dr. Louis C. Marino, beloved husband and father, admired physician, avid outdoorsman and dear friend, passed on Nov. 11, 2022, after a 10-month-long fight against cancer.

Lou grew up in Islip, N.Y., and spent his childhood playing baseball and football, wrestling and developing a lifelong passion for the guitar. He graduated from Binghamton University and later from Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. He spent his residency and internship at Abington Memorial Hospital, where he met his beautiful wife, Carol (née Hasselbusch). After settling in the Doylestown area, Lou and Carol nurtured countless friendships and filled their home with laughter, love and three extraordinary children – Erica, Gianna and Dan. Lou was many things to many people, but nothing mattered more to him than being an outstanding father and husband. Moments spent with his wife and kids filled his heart – cheering from the soccer sidelines, decorating dorm rooms to feel like home, but perhaps vacationing together was his most favorite. He taught them how to shoot skeet, bait a hook, kick a mean ball, choose a quality car, love nature, place others first, and be thankful for life’s blessings.

Lou is lovingly survived by his parents, Joseph and Josephine (née Miceli) Marino, parents-in-law Bill and Joan (née Koch) Hasselbusch, sisters Rosemarie Popovic and Phyllis Dublin, and in-law siblings Tony Popovic, Adam Dublin, Bob and Sandy Hasselbusch, and Rich and Tina Hasselbusch. Many called him Uncle Lou, but none said it with as much love as Adam and Kelly Gabriel, Jeremy Hasselbusch and Tyler Silfies, Justin, Bridget and Mackenzie Hasselbusch, Aengus Dublin, Otto Dublin Max Hasselbusch, Sam Hasselbusch, Clare Hasselbusch, and Will Hasselbusch.

Lou is remembered as a thoughtful and skilled doctor, always spending extra time building personal and caring relationships with each of his patients. With the support of his partner, Dr. Dave DiPietro, and his staff, Ashley, Paris, Jen, Donna and Danielle, he was able to provide both quality and compassionate care that meant so much to him. But he was more than his profession, and those who knew and loved him will forever cherish his quick wit, warm smile, generous spirit, and open door no matter the day or time.

Lou enjoyed the simple pleasure of spending time outdoors and was an ardent bowhunter, fisherman, and car and motorcycle enthusiast. A lifelong Jets fan, autumn Sundays were spent celebrating wins, close games and disappointing losses with his kids, nephews, nieces and friends. Lou loved golden retrievers, and their family never felt complete unless it included a massive, yellow, cuddly dog – Wesley was Lou’s best buddy, and he never left his side.

Those wishing to remember Lou with happy stories and warm hugs are invited to visit on Friday, Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m. at John F. Givnish of Buckingham, 4886 York Road, Buckingham, Pa., and Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9-11 am at Covenant Church, 4000 US-202, Doylestown, Pa. A funeral service will immediately follow at Covenant Church, beginning at 11 a.m. Family and friends are encouraged to stay for a light meal and share stories of Lou at Covenant Church after the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to support the Marino children’s education, ℅ Carol Marino, PO Box 387, Doylestown, PA 18901-9998.
