The Doylestown Rugby men’s team competed in the Atlantic Super Regional in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 30-May 1.

In the first round (national sweet 16) on Saturday, April 30, the Dragons came from behind with two late tries to beat Boston RFC 27-26. In the quarterfinals (national elite eight) on Sunday, May 1, Doylestown and Buffalo were tied 26-26 at the end of regulation play. In overtime, Doylestown fell 43-26.

In a home match on May 1, the Doylestown Rugby Academy high school boys team ended the regular spring league season by defeating Malvern Prep. The final score was 43-38.

Try scorers for the Dragons were Jack Wierzbowski (three), Matt Cleland (two) and Nick Vyvlecka (two). Cleland also kicked three conversions and Reagan McCullough made one conversion. Malvern Prep had six tries and four conversions.

The Dragons will play in the quarterfinals of the RugbyPa State Championships against Berks on Sunday, May 8.

The academy’s girls high school team defeated Downingtown 47-22 at home on May 1.

Maddie Doyle, Alani Marks and Sydney Haddon each scored two tries. Sienna Accardi, Lilly Fiske and Maggie Walker added one try each. Nolah Flynn made one conversion kick.

Doylestown will take on Downingtown again on Sunday, May 15, in the semifinals of the RugbyPA State Championships. The finals of the RugbyPa State Championships will be held on Sunday, May 22 at PSU Berks.

The academy’s junior boys team defeated Downingtown at home on May 1. The final score was 41-31.

Try scorers for Doylestown were Jack Druger, Joey Craig, Carston Nocito, Aaron Kelly, Timmy Fuhrmeister, and Marco Burns. Craig kicked four conversions and made one penalty kick. Downingtown had five tries and three conversions.

The Dragons will close out the regular spring league season with an away match against West Chester on May 8.

The academy’s youth boys team defeated Downingtown at home on May 1. The final score was 62-5.

Try scorers for Doylestown were Liam Hoey (two), Gavin Graham (two), Owen Pudlo (two), Jackson Hornick (two), Davis Parisi and Jason Beebee. Jamie Weir made six conversion kicks. Downingtown had one unconverted try.

The Dragons will close out the regular spring league season with an away match against West Chester on May 8.
