Dorothy Pusey Miller (Dottie) from Wycombe died on January 31, 2024 at the age of 94.

Daughter of Nelle Jones Pusey and Jesse D. Pusey, she was born in Avondale, PA and grew up on the family homestead Avon Heights Farm. She was a member of London Grove Friends Meeting and descended from the early settlers of Chester County. In 1682 her ancestors sailed with William Penn on the ship Welcome to help establish the colony of Pennsylvania and they erected the first saw and grist mill of the colony, Chester Mills, on the Chester Creek in Upland, PA. Dorothy attended Avon Grove schools through middle school and thereafter continued her education graduating from George School in Newtown, PA and from Millersville State Teacher’s College where she earned her B.A in Education. While there she met her future husband, Dale K. (Dusty) Miller.

Dorothy started her career as a kindergarten teacher in Coatesville, PA. In 1953 she married Dusty at London Grove Meeting and moved to Bucks County where she raised her four children, Betsy, Suzanne, Stephen, and David Scott. She went back to teaching in various roles at Bensalem School District in Bucks County where her kindness, patience, and caring nature touched the lives of many students and colleagues. During summers, she and Dusty directed Camp Onas, a Quaker resident camp for 10 years. After retiring from teaching she and Dusty moved to their beloved farmhouse in Wycombe. Dottie was a longtime active member of Wrightstown Friends Monthly Meeting, volunteered at the Wrightstown Library and was an avid gardener and bridge player. She enjoyed attending antique auctions and spending time at her cottage on the Northeast River in Maryland.

Her pie baking skills were legendary. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are grateful for the loving, stable presence she brought to their lives and will sorely miss her.

A memorial service will be held on March 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Wrightstown Friends Meeting House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to Wrightstown Monthly Meeting, 535 Durham Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
