Buckingham Friends School has announced that Carol and Lou Della Penna recently shared their commitment to make a significant gift to the school in support of BFS’s facilities and campus improvement projects. It is the Della Pennas’ second such gift.
“The Della Pennas are eager to attract the attention and generosity of others, and they have pledged $150,000 to be used as a matching challenge to community members and friends of the school,” said Paul Lindenmaier, Head of School. “With a clear vision for the future and enrollment at optimal levels, the school is positioning its facilities to support its strategic plan and teaching and learning for decades to come.”
Projects underway include the construction of a new gymnasium, science building, and a structure that the school calls a “community connector.” Also underway are two new learning commons as part of a major renovation to its main building that houses all classrooms for students in grades 3-8.
In addition, the school is enhancing its 44-acre campus by caring for and developing the site and new play areas, constructing a new K-2 playground and improving the bus arrival and departure area.
“Buckingham Friends School has been a game-changer for our family,” Lou Della Penna said in a statement. “Our children and grandchildren thrived as members of the BFS community, and we are excited to give back, to support the vision for the future of the school, and to help finish raising the funds they need to complete these projects.”
