A real estate agent with strong ties to the Bucks County community where she grew up and is raising her two daughters was appointed to the Pennsbury School Board for Region 2.
Donna Petrecco, of Falls, received the unanimous approval of the board members to take the seat vacated by James Prokopiak, who is now serving as state representative for the 140th Legislative District.
“I’m looking forward to contributing and helping in the new school project,” said Petrecco, 49. “I want to contribute to the good work they are doing.”
The school district plans to build a new high school over the next several years and the project, estimated at $250 million, is the largest the district has undertaken recently.
Petrecco graduated from Bishop Conwell, now part of the merged Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. The new school-board member holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Joseph’s University and is a licensed real estate agent for Pennsylvania and New Jersey with the Addison Wolfe Real Estate firm in New Hope. She is married and has two daughters.
Petrecco has served on several boards and/or held leadership roles, the school district noted, with the Bucks County Housing Authority, the Children’s House of Bucks County, the Falls Township Historic Preservation Commission, the Falls Township Democratic Party and the Fallsington Library.
“My commitment to education is deeply rooted in both personal and professional experiences. As a parent of two children, one currently enrolled in Pennsbury High School and one who has graduated, I have a firsthand understanding of the needs and challenges faced by students, teachers and parents within our district,” Petrecco said.
“This perspective drives my passion for fostering an inclusive, supportive and high-achieving educational environment for all students.”
Petrecco will hold the school board position by appointment until Dec. 1, 2025.
Dr. Joanna Steere, school board president, said she thought Petrecco was a good choice.
“I think she’ll be a good school board director. I think she has a lot to contribute,” she said in a phone interview.
The school board recently honored Prokopiak with a Resolution of Appreciation for his years of service from December 2021 to May of this year, noting that he served on the education, policy and personnel committees and participated in the planning not only for the new high school but for several other projects, including the renovations to the Charles Boehm Middle School and the Falcon Field at the high school.
Prokopiak won a special election in February to fill the unexpired term of former state Rep. John Galloway, who was elected to serve as district judge in Falls. Prokopiak was sworn in as state representative March 19.
