Posted

The District One 3A volleyball tournament started with first-round action on Tuesday night.

No. 12 Central Bucks South had its first winning season in 17 years, going 9-8 entering districts. The Titans’ season ended on Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to No. 5 Upper Dublin.

No. 11 William Tennent (8-8), which made states last year, lost in Tuesday’s first round at No. 6 Unionville 3-0.

No. 7 Council Rock North (12-5) topped No. 10 Central Bucks East (11-8) 3-1; interestingly, the teams did not meet in the regular season.

North advanced to play No. 2 Pennridge (15-1), which is looking to make its fourth trip in a row to states. The Rams’ lone loss came to defending state champion Parkland. Pennridge went a perfect 14-0 in SOL play and won the full or share of the American Division crown for the third straight year.

Second-round matches are this Thursday with the semifinals on Tuesday at William Tennent, and the championship held at Upper Dublin on May 23. Three teams advance to states.

Although Archbishop Wood did not make the PCL playoffs, Viking senior outside hitter Colin Lynch earned a spot on the All-Philadelphia Catholic League first team.
