Del Val High School picks head football coach

Posted

Ben Ibach has been chosen to succeed Mike Haughey as head coach of the Delaware Valley Regional High School football team.

Ibach, 46, has been the Terriers’ offensive coordinator for the past six seasons. He is already head coach of the girls basketball team.

Athletic Director Lance Jacobs said, “Coach Ibach was recommended as the football head coach because of his head-coaching experience and the leadership qualities he has exhibited in his role at Del Val. He will provide continuity to an already successful program, as he has extensive familiarity with the student athletes, families and overall program philosophies.”

Ibach played football, basketball and baseball at Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, and football at Lock Haven University. He was an assistant football coach coordinating the offense at Hunterdon Central before assuming that role at Del Val.

For the past 21 years he has been teaching health and physical education at the Reading-Fleming Intermediate School in Flemington, N.J.

“Del Val is a great place to coach, where the kids work hard and on Friday nights the atmosphere is electric,” Ibach said. “My coaching staff and myself are going to push these boys to grow, not only as athletes but as good people. I think keeping things simple will promote positive attitudes and build confidence.”

He said, “This upcoming season we bring back an experienced offensive and defensive line. We graduated six or seven guys on both sides of the ball from last season. So we will be looking for some young guys to step up in key positions. It is a process and we will have to be patient.”
