Crime spree hits Warrington Township

Posted

Warrington Township is seeing a number of home burglaries, stolen cars and more than two dozen thefts from vehicles since Aug. 17, authorities said.

Several developments are being targeted, including Palomino Farms, Fairways, Pickertown Knoll, Woodspring, Warrington Ridge and Hickory Ridge, police reported.

Thieves are finding unlocked cars and, if there’s a garage door remote inside, they use that to enter the garage and then the house. If the keys are in the car, they are stealing that too, said officials.

Warrington police said they have investigated 25 thefts from cars, four residential burglaries and four stolen vehicles over the last week, with more reports coming in.

One stolen car was recovered in Doylestown and another was seen in Chester City, but not yet recovered. Two other vehicles have not been found.

Seen as “opportunity crimes,” the criminals are not breaking into the cars if they’re locked or into homes, if they don’t have a way to enter the house using the garage door opener.

Police are asking everyone to lock their cars and be sure windows are closed. Take any valuables, such as laptops and phones, out of the car or lock them in the trunk.

While police have posted photographs of suspects seen on surveillance systems, they ask residents in the affected neighborhoods to check their home video cameras for any additional images and send them to BSchaffer@warringonpd.org.
