Credit unions join forces to combat food insecurity

Posted

TruMark Financial Credit Union took part in the annual Collaborative Credit Union Food Drive, resulting in 2,834 pounds of canned goods and nonperishable food being donated to Philabundance.

To help replenish diminishing supplies in local pantries, TruMark Financial joined forces with Pennsylvania state legislators and the following local credit unions: Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union, Superior Credit Union, Reliance Federal Credit Union, Freedom Credit Union, Penn Federal Credit Union, Tri County Area Federal Credit Union, American Heritage Credit Union, Ardent Credit Union, Sun East Federal Credit Union, Eagle One Federal Credit Union, Self Reliance Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union and BHCU.

The credit unions’ branches and legislators’ offices served as drop-off sites for food donations from members and constituents. The credit unions worked with Philabundance to learn what types of food were most needed and received an overwhelming response from people who wanted to help. In addition to the food donation, the event also generated an astounding $26,290 in monetary donations, providing essential resources to further bolster Philabundance’s mission.
