County Theater to begin open caption shows on Wednesdays

Posted

The County Theater in Doylestown will premier open caption shows beginning Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Open caption shows expand the accessibility of the movie theater experience for more members of the community. Open caption shows will display text of words and sounds in the film right on screen. The shows will be exclusively shown on Wednesdays in Auditorium 3.

Currently, the County Theater offers closed captioning devices, glasses or cup-holder displays for select films. Films with closed captioning are noted on the website. Closed caption allows attendees to view text of words and sounds in a film that appear on an LED screen.

Additionally, assistive listening and audio description devices are available; they amplify the movie audio and provide descriptive narration through headphones. These devices are available free of charge upon request at the concession stand.

The historic County Theater has been entertaining audiences in Doylestown since its opening in 1938. In 1993, the theater was reopened as a community supported nonprofit and has increased its programming, which includes art house fare, Hollywood classics, family matinees, special events, and more.
