Community arts space celebrating nine years

Posted

Flemington DIY, a community arts organization, invites the community to its nine-year anniversary party dubbed “9 Lives of DIY,” happening from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 20.

The free, daytime festivities will consist of:

-a group bike ride in collaboration with Party Size Cycling, an inclusive bike-centric group from High Bridge;

-a free Rhythm Kids class from Music Together for kids pre-k through grade 2;

-screen printing of commemorative T-shirts (bring your own blank shirt or purchase one); an art exhibit featuring the works of Flemington DIY members and volunteers; and

-a dedication and demonstration of a new “compost bench,” a bench that doubles as a compost bin, located outside Flemington DIY, 26 Stangl Road, Flemington, N.J., in the Arts and Cultural District.

The celebration will conclude with an energetic live show with an eclectic line up featuring lo-fi titans Purling Hiss from Philadelphia, indie darlings Starcleaner Reunion, garage dwellers Jug & the Bugs, and psych rockers Heathmonger. Pre-sale tickets are $15 with limited availability; tickets at the door are $20.

“The 9 Lives of DIY name alludes to the fact that we are a resilient group of volunteers who do things for the community because we believe in it,” said Jeff Hersch, co-founder and executive director. “Since our reopening last year, we’ve seen unprecedented growth by way of funding, new partnerships, and recognition. We want to celebrate with the people who made it happen – our community.”

Lone Eagle Brewing will unveil a limited “9 Lives India Pale Ale” to commemorate the anniversary. The brewery has pledged to donate a portion of proceeds to Flemington DIY.
