Christmas classic movies are a tradition at the historic Newtown Theatre, and this year’s lineup is bigger than ever.
Tickets for most films are $5 for everyone (unless otherwise indicated) and all seating is general admission. Movies being shown this year include:
• “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” – at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10. So bad it’s good, this 1964 science fiction comedy regularly appears on the lists of the worst films ever made. Tickets for this special event are only 93 cents – the average movie ticket price in 1964. Tickets are only available at the door.
Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the movie will start at 9 p.m. Beer, wine, and a special Martian-themed cocktail will be available for purchase in the hour before the movie. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best 1960s clothing.
• “A Christmas Story” – at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, sponsored by Christine McKee.
• “White Christmas” – at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, sponsored by Alice Hart Hughes, Esq.
• “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” – at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, sponsored by Ken and Peg Swanstrom.
• “Elf – Grownups Screening” – at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. Only elves 21 and older will be admitted. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the movie will start at 9 p.m.
