The Central Bucks School Board will hold a rare Friday meeting this week to accept the resignations of two GOP board members, who verbally resigned last week then, on Monday, followed up with letters that made it official, said school board President Karen Smith.
Lisa Sciscio and Debra Cannon both said they were leaving at the Feb. 13 board meeting, after arguing they were not being provided information from the school board’s attorney, David Conn. Specifically, they said information about the district’s investigation into the legality of CBSD’s separation agreement with its former superintendent Abe Lucabaugh was not made available to them.
Lucabaugh abruptly resigned late last year after the November elections flipped the board to a Democratic majority.
Smith and other Democratic board members said no information was withheld and all information on all matters involving the school district is available to all board members.
The Feb. 13 statements from Sciscio and Cannon, whose terms were to expire in 2025, came just after that evening’s school board meeting was adjourned and amid conflict about executive session matters being discussed in public.
Efforts to reach Sciscio and Cannon were unsuccessful. Sciscio reportedly accused the board majority of trying to get Republican members to quit.
Republican Jim Pepper remains on the board.
In January, Sciscio was the only board member who didn’t support having Conn launch an investigation into the legality of the separation agreement.
Smith said that when a board member can’t attend an executive session he or she is encouraged to call the board president, the superintendent or the board’s solicitor to request information on what happened.
“No one is being shut out,” said Smith.
The special meeting to accept the resignations is set for Friday at 4 p.m. at the district’s administrative offices at 20 Welden Drive in Doylestown.
