Central Bucks School Board member to leave her voting region this summer

Posted

Dr. Mariam Mahmud, vice president of the Central Bucks School Board, acknowledged Monday that she plans to move out of Region 5, which she represents, this summer.

The issue arose during Monday night’s special board meeting to appoint two new school directors. Shannon Harris called on the board to investigate if Mahmud’s primary residence is still in Region 5.

Responding to the matter Tuesday, Mahmud said, in a statement, “Over the summer 2024, my family will be moving as we do not want to disturb the school year for our children. I will provide ample notice to the voters and the board at that time. I am honored to continue serving the voters of Central Bucks for as long as I remain at my current residence.”

Mahmud’s term expires in 2025.

State law requires a school board member to reside in the district they represent.
