Posted

The Historic Carversville Society (HCS) will host Carversville Day from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13.

Rain or shine, the afternoon celebration for the entire family includes free admission and free parking at the Carversville Church on Aquetong Road. The one-day celebration will take place in the historic village square of Carversville.

Submit four-dozen baked cookies to be entered in the popular Cookie Contest. People’s Choice Best Cookie wins a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted cookie jar by local potter Nan Kirstein. Bring your pets in costume and win a prize for Best Costume and Trick.

“Carversville Day is a chance for our local residents and neighboring Solebury friends to enjoy the day celebrating our wonderful community and each other. We anticipate lots of great live auction items to support the HCS along with yummy cookies to taste,” said Carversville Day Chairperson Laura Viehweger.

HCS President Lori White said, “Everyone is so thankful for Laura and her committee for the planning and coordinating of making Carversville Day a memorable occasion that brings us all together.”

Join in the fun in the Village Square on Aquetong and Carversville roads. The full schedule is as follows: 11:45 a.m. Cookie Contest entrants drop off four-dozen cookies; noon Pet Parade (register by 11:45 a.m.) with awards for Best Costume and Trick prizes, live music by David Stier and his ensemble; 1 p.m. Watermelon Eating Contest; 2 p.m. Live Auction, Cookie Contest voting closes.

Following the live auction, cookie contest and raffle winners will be announced.

In 1726 the first settlers arrived to the area for the construction of several mills along the Paunacussing Creek. More than 100 years later when the post office was established in 1833, it was named Carversville in honor of the Carver family who were early settlers and mill operators.
