Canal/South Canal Street tour set in Yardley

Posted

A walking tour that takes in both the Delaware Canal towpath and neighboring South Canal Street in Yardley is set for 2 p.m. Oct. 19.

Sponsored by the Yardley Historical Association, the 2-mile stroll will begin at the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 W. Afton Ave. and include a bit of downtown Yardley, the towpath and South Canal Street, which was a bustling area when the canal was operating commercially.

A special stop will be the historic AME Church, now known as the Gather Place where Conservator Shirley Lee Corsey will discuss the transformation of the once-dilapidated building into a museum and performance place.

Susan Taylor, the former executive director of the Friends of the Delaware Canal, will lead the walk. A donation of $10 per person is requested. To reserve a place, please email info@yardleyhistory.org or call 215-208-1154.
