Bucks students call on community to participate in march for climate action

Posted
Bucks Students for Climate Action and Protection of the Environment (BSCAPE) is calling youth and adults alike to action on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The organization is hosting a march in Doylestown in accordance with the Global Climate Strike movement led by Sunrise during the week of Sept. 20 to 27. Sunrise is a student-led movement bringing together people of all genders, ages, races, cultures, political affiliations and backgrounds to fight the climate crisis.

Hundreds of Bucks County residents are expected to march in Doylestown Sept. 22, under the guiding Mission of the Global Climate Strike platform. The Doylestown Climate Strike will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., convening in the front parking lot of Central Bucks High School West, 375 W. Court St. in Doylestown.

Marchers will gather for opening remarks, followed by a symbolic march beginning at noon and led by BSCAPE youth, to the Bucks County Courthouse for speeches and booth information.

The event offers a unique opportunity to those who are unable to attend larger marches in Washington and Philadelphia, or would prefer to support the local movement.

There will be booths providing voter registration, information about BSCAPE and other local environmental organizations, and educational resources at the event. Local merchants and restaurants will offer related specials and promotions in support.

The event is family-friendly, student-led, and wheelchair accessible. All are welcome.

Event details can be found on Facebook and at bscape.org/events/climatestrike920.
