Bucks County Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Family Concert, at 3 p.m. Sunday Dec. 5, at Central Bucks High School East in Buckingham.
“December Delights,” conducted by Music Director Gary S. Fagin, is for music lovers of all ages—from young children to grandparents. Families are encouraged to bring their children to hear the sounds of the BCSO and dozens of talented young musicians.
The concert is sponsored by Tom and Judy Newman, the Central Bucks School District, and the Estate of Victoria P. Herd. Special moments of appreciation will be dedicated to the music teachers of the Central Bucks School District for many years of collaboration with the BCSO and to the members of the National Charity League—Central Bucks for their volunteer work at BCSO concerts.
The concert will open with three sections of Peter Tchaikovsky’s beloved classic “The Nutcracker Suite”: March, Dance of the Mirlitons, and Trepak.
A highlight of the afternoon’s concert will be the performance of an abridged version of Camille Saint-Säens’ “Cello Concerto No. 1,” played by 14-year-old Matthew Chung, winner of the BCSO’s Youth Concerto Competition. Matthew is a ninth-grade student at Methacton High School and attends Community Music School in Trappe, where he is a recipient of a merit scholarship and participant in chamber ensembles.
