Bucks County has a new Veterans Affairs director

Posted

A U.S. Navy Reservist has been selected to be Bucks County’s director of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the county announced.

Matthew Allen, a Bucks County native, joined the department after four years of active-duty Navy service and a decade in the county sheriff’s office as a deputy.

“The one thing that I want veterans to know is that we’re here to help them,” Allen said, in a statement. “We are here for whatever they need, even if it’s just a person to talk to. Everyone in this office cares and wants to help the veterans out as much as we can.”

Matthews starting salary is $85,000. His responsibilities include supervising the department and its three full-time and one part-time staff members.

Veterans Affairs offers a range of benefits and services to Bucks County vets, including transportation for qualifying veterans, emergency funds and headstones and flag and grave markers.

Allen takes over the department following Dan Fraley, a Vietnam veteran, who ran the agency for 23 years before retiring in 2021.
