Bucks Artist Tricia Zimic to show at International Porcelain Biennial in Germany

Posted

Tricia Zimic of Upper Black Eddy, has been invited by the well-known porcelain manufactory in Europe – Meissen – to exhibit three porcelain sculptures as part of her “Sins & Virtues” series at the third annual biennial exhibit at the Meissen Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen, Germany.

The castle is the place where porcelain was first introduced in Europe over 300 years ago.

As the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe, founded in 1710 by King Augustus the Strong, sculptures and objects created by Meissen have been trailblazing since the very beginning and have given rise to some of the most significant porcelain artists of their time.

The resulting masterpieces, both then and now, are produced entirely by hand. Zimic’s three pieces in the exhibit – “Diligence/Kintsugi,” “Lust,” and “Kindness” – are very much in keeping with the classic Meissen tradition of using animals as anthropomorphic representations of human activity and drama.

According to Uwe Michel, Meissen Albrechtsburg Castle manager, “Tricia’s ‘Sins & Virtues’ sculptures are unique works that suit Meissen so wonderfully.”

Zimic said, “My ‘Sins & Virtues’ sculptures were inspired by my visit to Meissen some years ago and I was intrigued to tell my story in porcelain using baboons as my muse.”

Zimic was the winner of the 2021 Patrons Award for sculpture at the 92nd Juried Art Show at Phillips’ Mill for her porcelain sculpture, “Diligence/Kintsugi.”

Her work, along with other contemporary sculptures mostly across Europe, will be on display at the Meissen Albrechtsburg Castle from July 18 to Sept. 25 in Meissen, Germany.
