Bucks artist to exhibit in Australia

Posted

Emily Thompson’s paintings will be included in “You’re Just My Type” – an invitational, international showcase of artists who simply have a way with words.

With text in common, the artists included boast their own distinctive and exceptional interpretation of language in art. From the study of typographic forms to familiar pop culture references, this aesthetic never fails to tell a dynamic story. The exhibition, running June 14 to July 7, is curated as a spotlight on artists as logophiles and the often-overlooked craft of lettering, text, word and language in art.

Gab Lewis, the curator of Outré Gallery in Melbourne, chose specific pieces from Thompson that she felt best represented the theme of the show. Thompson’s paintings document the ordinary, the everyday, the disappearing, the nostalgic, the abandoned and the identity of the American landscape.

She is inspired by roadside and urban signage and is interested in sign preservation. Her painting style is about the design, atmosphere, mood, color, the application of paint and texture that she brings to her subjects.

Thompson attended the prestigious High School of Art & Design and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The School of Visual Arts in New York. She is an internationally recognized, award-winning artist with work in private collections throughout the United States and Europe. She was chosen as one of the 50 Most Memorable Artists by The Artist Portfolio Magazine, was featured in The Artist’s Magazine, and most recently chosen as one of the Top 20 Artists of Modern Impressionists Magazine, 2024.
