Boys basketball: Owls top Patriots

Posted

The Bensalem Owls handed Central Bucks East (11-2, 6-1 SOL Colonial) a rare “L” Friday night in Lower Bucks as the hosts defeated the Patriots 69-54.

The SOL crossover matchup pitted the first-place teams in the Patriot (Bensalem) and the Colonial (CB East). Bensalem outscored East 38-22 over the middle two quarters to put the game away. Jacob Cummiskey’s 17 led East. Nolan Behm and Justin DiRoberto each scored 10 for the Patriots.

The Patriots opened the season with a nine-game win streak. East closed 2023 at the Governors Challenge in Salisbury, Md., where they split two games against Maryland high schools. Tyler Dandrea combined for 26 points over the two games.

East got back into the win column on Jan. 3 with a thrilling 61-60 victory at Upper Dublin. The Patriots were up 50-38 at the end of three but the Cardinals tied it. Cummiskey, whose 18 points paced East, sank a free throw with five seconds left for the winning point.

CB East next takes the court on Friday to host Pennsbury in a crossover game.
