Bedminster Police Department receives special professional recognition

Posted

Bedminster Township Poilce Chief Matt Phelan has announced his department’s receipt of the FBI-LEEDA Agency Trilogy Award. He presented the special certificate at the Aug. 10 public board of supervisors meeting.

“FBI-LEEDA presents this award to law enforcement agencies whose entire command staff have completed the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Leadership series,” he said in an email after the meeting. “The Trilogy consists of Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute, and Executive Leadership Institute.”

“This award is a result of the dedication and investment that Bedminster Township has made to cultivating leaders who promote professionalism, community partnership, and problem solving. I am grateful that our police supervisors have had these opportunities to learn about important topics impacting the delivery of modern police services.”

He added that “FBI-LEEDA courses and seminars use a wide range of source material, and call upon participants’ own professional experiences to facilitate individual development and learning. Faculty members are passionate instructors who have executive level law enforcement and leadership experience, and academics who conduct research in various fields.”

Phelan’s monthly report for July, also presented at the Aug. 10 meeting, noted that “state police referred two cases for investigation, involving the attempted purchases of a firearm, by persons not to possess firearms, at a township gun shop.”

Among fraud items, he noted a resident falling victim to “an email scam asking for a gift card to be sent to pay for software that he would use during his research. The email account had advised him that he would be reimbursed for this equipment. He eventually received an online check for $2,350, at which time he printed out and deposited to his bank account. It subsequently was determined that it was not a legitimate check.”

In another matter, he noted that “Trenton, NJPD reported that they had one of their residents in custody, who was the subject of a Bedminster PD warrant for a vehicle theft in April. He will be housed at Mercer County Jail, pending extradition back to Bucks County.”
