Barbara Choma Slack of Solebury passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday, January 28, 2024. She was 82 years old. Barbara was born on May 31, 1941, in Bristol, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Olga Choma of Bristol and a graduate of Bristol High School. Barbara earned her undergraduate and Masters degrees from Rider College and went on to become a high school business teacher. She began her career at New Hope-Solebury High school in 1964 and remained there until her retirement in 2002.

In 1967, she was introduced through friends to New Hope native Paul Slack. A few months later, the two were married and enjoyed 50 years of marriage together, living the rest of their lives in Solebury.

Barbara was a dedicated teacher and loved building relationships with each of her students. She cherished teaching kids of all abilities and watching them grow and learn. Her classroom subjects evolved over the years from typing on typewriters and teaching shorthand to computer word processing and entrepreneurship. She spent many hours learning and developing new curriculum as the technology constantly changed.

Outside of her school life, Barbara was very dedicated to her church, Trinity Episcopal in Solebury, and gave many hours volunteering her time and energy. Among her favorite activities were Alter Guild, Cookie Bake, Gramma’s Attic, Silent Auction, and Easter Egg Decorating. She always gave her time with a grateful heart. She was a member of Trinity for over 50 years.

The real love of Barbara’s life was her family. At every stage, she was a selfless mom to her two children and always put them first. She spent many an hour at a baseball field, basketball court, dance recital, band concert, choral performance, or cross country meet cheering on her kids. And later, she did the same for her three grandsons. Family was always the center of her life and brought her the most joy.

Barbara is survived by her two children, the Reverend Sean Slack (Laura), and Alyse Griffith (Matthew), her sister Michele Marini (Richard), her sister-in-law Anne Payne (James), her three grandsons, Tyndale Slack, Logan and Lucas Griffith, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Barbara’s life. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 4886 York Road, Buckingham, PA. There will also be calling hours on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, Pa, 18963.
