Bach Choir of Bethlehem announces new artistic director

Posted

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has announced the appointment of Dr. Christopher Jackson as the 7th artistic director and conductor in its 125-year history. Jackson will begin his tenure following the June 30 retirement of Greg Funfgeld, who concludes 39 seasons leading the choir.

Jackson holds a Ph.D. from University of North Texas and Master of Music from Westminster Choir College, both in choral conducting. He is currently the director of choral and vocal activities at Muhlenberg College and a member of Skylark Vocal Ensemble, a professional choral ensemble where he also serves as director of education.

Reflecting on Bach’s music and his new role, Dr. Jackson noted, “Bach has been a major force in my life since I first became engrossed in classical music as a teenager and has been a critical part of my relationship with music. Taking the artistic helm of The Bach Choir is an exciting endeavor.”

Bach Choir Board President Harold Black commented, “Chris was a standout from the start. He made a very favorable impression on our choristers young and old as well as our orchestra members. We are excited about our future with Chris as our artistic leader.”
