Awards presented at New Hope Arts documentary photography show

New Hope Arts’ exhibition of the documentary image to commemorate the legendary work of New Hope photographer Jack Rosen continues through Sept. 4.

Sponsored by Visit Buck County, Jack Rosen’s New Hope highlights a 40-year period, including notable inhabitants and landmarks. The exhibition which opened with the presentation of the Jack Rosen’s New Hope tour map and previewed a number of Rosen’s original signed photographs, includes a showcase of contemporary documentary photographers following in the Rosen tradition.

Documentary juror Melvin Evans of Newtown, a photojournalist for more than 47 years, selected over 50 contemporary images and awarded the cash prizes and commentary for the benefit of artists and gallery goers.

Awards were as follows: 1st Place, Habiyb Ali Shu’Aib, “Angel (Mother’s Embrace)”; 2nd Place, John Slavin, “House Fire”; 3rd Place, Linda Johnson, “Little Mermaids”; and three Honorable Mentions for Thomas Ando, Susan Kott, and John Slavin.

The work is on view through Labor Day Weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., and by appointment, ending Sept. 4. The Walking Tour map is available at New Hope Arts and on the website, newhopearts.org, and also can be viewed by QR code via smartphone.
