Desai, Hamilton shine in title meets

Solebury School hosted the PJAA Championships the afternoon of May 8. Five Spartan first places helped Solebury’s team finish as conference runner-up.

Junior Makhai Anderson and Shane Tomlinson won the high jump and shot put respectively with personal records. Anderson jumped 6 feet, 2 inches. Tomlinson put the shot 47 feet, seven inches.

Senior Aum Desai took home three gold medals – in the 800 meter (2:06.01), the 1,600 meter (4:45.31) and the 3,200 meter (10:20.91). Desai won the 3,200 meter by over 26 seconds.

The Archbishop Wood boys 4x800 team brought home the Vikings’ first gold on Saturday at the Philadelphia Catholic League championships held at Cardinal O’Hara. Michael Funk, Shane Nolan, Dylan Cappiello and Albert Funk clocked an 8:09.35, just over four seconds faster than runner-up LaSalle.

Sophomore standout Gwen Hamilton took home gold in the girls mile (5:24.45), nipping Archbishop Ryan senior Aleah Lazar by a quarter of a second. She later beat runner-up Lazar by nearly four seconds in claiming the 800 meter in 2:24.15.
