Arts and Cultural Council opens new home with salon show

Posted

As the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County grows in membership and garners attention across the community, the council realized it would serve members in a more meaningful way by having a place to call home.
To that end, the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County announces the opening of its new home – the A&C Community Meeting Center at Freeman Hall in Doylestown, beginning Sept. 11.
In the spring of 2018, the A&C hosted a Cinco de Mayo event at Freeman Hall. The following year, a collaboration was initiated when Bruce Rutherford and A&C Board President Ruth Anderson struck up an informal conversation in Rutherford’s Camera Shop in Doylestown.
Rutherford passed away in 2020; his enthusiasm and dedication to the arts and the preservation of the historic building will shine on through the years as the Council grows and programs at Freeman Hall unfold.
“His generosity of spirit, tireless advocacy, cherished friendship, and endearing smile will always be missed. We will continue to honor his legacy,” Anderson said.

Membership and Community Connections Chairperson Robbin Farr is excited about all the Community Meeting Center will do for A&C members.
“The opening of this space is a significant step in the growth of the Arts Council bringing together the need to expand to a physical location and the desire to enrich members’ benefits with more activities in a centralized Bucks County space. There are endless possibilities. Located at 181 E. Court St., across the street from Salem United Church of Christ, Freeman Hall provides exhibition space, meeting rooms, and a venue for lectures, workshops, programs, art shares, and more.”
As the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County continues to fulfill its mission “to foster, strengthen, and promote Bucks County’s diverse arts and cultural community, build arts alliances, and enhance the Bucks County arts experience,” the public is invited to join in celebrating its new home during upcoming events.
The A&C will kick off this new venture with the Fall Salon Member Show, which will open Sept. 11 and run through early November. The works of over 60 regional artists working in a variety of mediums will be exhibited throughout the building, and all works will be available for purchase.
The exhibition will be free and open to the public, and there will be a community reception on Sept. 25. For details about the A&C and a full schedule of Freeman Hall events, visit bucksarts.org. Stop in and see the council at the Doylestown Arts Festival as well, at Booth #15.
