AOY Art Center extends its Small Works show and sale into January

Posted

AOY Art Center’s artists have been so busy and there is so much art to share that it has extended its Small Works show into January.

The public is invited to experience Small Works 2.0 at AOY Art Center beginning Jan. 6 and running Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m., through Jan. 21. There are several new artists in this show and that means new art to be seen. Additionally, the public is invited to participate in one or all four of the artist demonstrations of their crafts and talent.

This show continues the AOY Small Works standards: a variety of art, framed and unframed, but nothing larger than 11 by 14 inches and everything under $200. There are hundreds of original artworks available in a variety of formats: oils, acrylics, encaustics, mixed media, watercolor, and photography by over 45 AOY member artists.

Look for works on canvas and works on paper by some of the area’s most popular local artists. Handcrafted pottery, wearable hand felted creations, jewelry and intricate pysanky ornaments will also be available for purchase.

Those interested in the Artist Demonstrations can register at aoyarts.org. RSVP at the link on aoyarts.org. There is no registration fee but AOY needs to ensure there is enough material as all sessions will be interactive. Below is the schedule:

● “Zen and Ink Drawing” with Aida Birritteri on Saturday, Jan. 7, 1 - 2:30 p.m.

● “Handmade Felting” with Nelly Kouzmina on Sunday, Jan. 8, 12 - 1:30 p.m.

● “Pysanky Writing” with Basia Andrusko on Saturday, Jan. 14, 1 - 2:30 p.m.

● “Creating Clay Surfaces - Carving and Texture” on Sunday, Jan. 15, noon - 2:30 p.m.

Pysanky is the Ukrainian tradition of egg decorating using a wax-relief method. AOY hosts the intricate Pysanka creations by Basia Andrusko (in both jewelry and ornaments) in this show. All proceeds from Andrusko’s sales and demonstration will be donated to “Razom for Ukraine” razomforukraine.org.

“The Small Works Show is the only show we run where you can purchase the unique creations and take them with you,” said Bette Sovinee, coordinator. “The public is invited to browse the online gallery on AOY’s website starting at noon on Friday, Jan. 6 and shop the show online 24/7 through Saturday, Jan. 21. We encourage you to visit the Center and see the art up close and personal.”

The AOY Art Center is located at 949 Mirror Lake Road in Lower Makefield (near the Route 295 interchange) on the Patterson Farm. For information, visit aoyarts.org.
