Anne Brewer Alden

Posted

Anne was born in Lansdowne, Pa., Dec. 8, 1934. She died Feb. 8, 2023 on her family farm, Pleasant Valley, near New Hope, Pa.

A member of Wrightstown Meeting, her remains rest in the family plot with her parents Hilma Keese Sybry, and Nathaniel Brewer, as well as her stepmother Grace Brewer and her brother Dave.

Anne attended George School in Newtown, Pa., where she sang beautifully in Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance” and “The Mikado,” easily upstaging her world-famous costar George Segal.

After high school, she was a brilliant student at Brown University’s Pembroke College, and later studied Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.

James Cooper Alden and Anne married at the Friends Meeting of Wrightstown and attended there together for 40 years. They had four children: Nanette Mugge‐Alden, Bonnie Alden-Van Fossen, Mitchell Brewer Alden and Jonathan Keese Alden. Anne’s children collectively gave her 11 grandchildren who then collectively gave her six great-grandchildren.

George School educated her four children, and three of her grandchildren.

Anne was “god” parent to many of the children in her neighborhood of Gwynedd Valley, and was affectionally referred to as “Doctor Mom,” by her children’s friends. Anne was a wonderful and knowledgeable communicator, helped many adolescents and foreign exchange students, and assisted in her husband Jim’s medical office while he practiced in Spring House.

Anne was an avid gardener, birdwatcher, and knitter. One mourner described her as “a cool, tough and outspoken character who wasn’t afraid to voice her mind,” and noted that “she always demonstrated her caring and welcomed me into her home where she always provided a wonderful meal and great company.”

Anne was the sun in her family’s solar system. She radiated light and loving warmth. Her presence continues to cast love on the many who loved her.

Donations to Wrightstown Friends Meeting in her honor would be appreciated.
