Allentown Symphony welcomes pianist Yefim Bronfman for opening concerts

Posted

Pianist Yefim Bronfman will perform “Bronfman Plays Brahms,” to kick off the Classical Series at Miller Symphony Hall this season, conducted by Allentown Symphony Music Director / Conductor Diane Wittry.

Internationally recognized as one of today’s most acclaimed and admired pianists, Bronfman will present two performances, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m., before traveling to New York City for an appearance with the New York Philharmonic as one of its “Star Pianists.”

The complete program with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra includes:

• “Starburst,” by American composer and New York native Jessie Montgomery.

• “Symphony No. 3” by Louise Farrenc, a French composer.

• “Piano Concerto No. 2” by Johannes Brahms, considered by many to be the second most difficult piano concerto ever written, after Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 3.”

Wittry will lead a “Meet the Artist” discussion at noon Friday, Oct. 13. Hear what’s behind the notes, as she talks with Yefim Bronfman about the weekend’s concerts. This event is free and open to all.

Tickets to “Bronfman Plays Brahms” begin at $25; students 21 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased at 610-432-6715 or MillerSymphonyHall.org. Miller Symphony Hall is located at 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown.
