Wrightstown taking a look at roadway issues

Posted

Road issues were a keen focus for the Wrightstown Board of Supervisors at their Feb. 27 public meeting.

The three-person board, which locally governs the municipality, authorized engaging engineering firm Pennoni for $4,600 to evaluate the potential need for traffic calming measures at the intersection of Route 232 and Penns Park Road, and the intersection of Route 413 and Brownsburg Road.

Just what remedies, if any, may be suggested to address issues, such as accidents, remains to be seen.

“We expect a report within the next two months,” said Supervisor Chairman Chester Pogonowski.

Supervisors have previously discussed that the intersection of Route 232 and township-owned Penns Park Road has seen its share of accidents. Vehicle volume at the intersection increased during a recent two-year state construction project that detoured traffic there, contributing to a rise in motor vehicle accidents.

While traffic volumes have returned to normal and vehicle accidents decreased, supervisors are interested in determining if conditions have changed enough permanently to warrant adding more traffic control measures, such as another stop sign or traffic light. There’s a stop sign on Penns Park Road currently.

Meanwhile, supervisors also authorized the township engineer to develop a scope-of-work for paving that needs to be done on township roads this year. After the list is developed and reviewed by the board, the projects will be put out to bid.

“There is some indication that work will be needed on Penns Park Road,” said Pogonowski. “This would need to be coordinated with the Grange Fair and Wrightstown School operations.”
