Wrightstown Meeting hosts outdoor coffeehouse

Posted

Wrightstown Friends Meeting welcomes one and all for another “Musical Coffeehouse” – this one outside, at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5.

The free event will be held behind the Wrightstown Friends Meeting House. Families are welcome to bring picnics, blankets and chairs. Coffee, tea and additional light refreshments will be offered. There is a playground available for little ones.

“We really want to bring people in and let them know they’re welcome,” said Michelle Hunter, clerk of the Outreach Committee.

As a part of its rejuvenated Outreach effort, Wrightstown Meeting began its Coffeehouse Evenings pre-pandemic and is excited to restart the events. Earlier events welcomed many members of the surrounding communities, musicians as well as those who enjoy listening to music and socializing. The idea is based on the 1960s-style coffeehouses, where coffee was served and members of the public came to play acoustic folk music, read the occasional poem, and listen to music while socializing with friends.

The opening act will be Wrightstown Friends’ own Randy Viscio.

Fools & Prophets, the featured band, is a group that started under the name Faith & Practice, which had been going since 1998. The members of the group have changed and now consist of five vocalist/musicians with a repertoire as eclectic as ever.

Gene Taylor has been with the group the longest playing fiddle, harmonica, and the occasional tambourine. Dave Crosman plays guitar and sometimes tenor banjo. Erica Larsen plays mandolin and bass. Anthony Perrotti plays six string, 12 string and bass guitars, and their newest member, Lynne Nugent playing guitar. Their eclectic mix of songs spans both decades and genres.

No smoking, drugs, alcohol or guns are permitted on the Wrightstown Friends Meeting campus.
