White Zombie’s Sean Yseult jams with students in Doylestown

Posted

Sean Yseult – the co-founder of the multi-million-selling, MTV VMA-winning and Grammy-nominated heavy metal band White Zombie – visited School of Rock Doylestown on Nov. 16 to meet and perform with 14 of the school’s student musicians.

“I was extremely impressed with the level of skill that each student had with their instrument,” said Yseult, who was White Zombie’s original bassist as well as one of the band’s songwriters. “The students were well rehearsed and ready to perform. I’ve never seen young kids play in a rock band with such skill and dexterity.”

Yseult co-founded White Zombie in 1985 with Rob Zombie, while the two were students at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. After the foursome broke up in 1998, Yseult built a career as a designer and award-winning photographer.

“The School of Rock performance-based music education approach is doing something right for sure,” said Yseult, who shared details about her diverse accomplishments and artistic journey and performed the White Zombie hits “Soulcrusher,” “Black Sunshine” and “Thunder Kiss ‘65” with the School of Rock Doylestown students during her visit. “When I was ready to learn bass and start a rock band, I had no guidance – I just had to try to find like-minded people and figure it out. If School of Rock had been around, I would have been the first person in my hometown to sign up – what a great opportunity.”
