West Amwell Township Mayor Zach Rich submitted a letter to the Hunterdon County Republican Executive Committee, Wednesday, Feb. 6, with his intentions to seek the Freeholder seat being vacated by Freeholder Director Suzanne Lagay.

“I have spent the last 10 years committing myself to public service in my community and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Rich said in a statement regarding his candidacy.

“Together with my colleagues on the Township Committee and the township’s dedicated employees, we have stayed true to the principles of good government and remained vigilant in our duty to improve the lives of West Amwell’s residents.

“I am excited for the opportunity to take my vision and enthusiasm for public service to the entire county and I am confident that my experiences will serve to contribute to and expand upon the excellent work being done by our County Freeholders.”

Rich thanked Lagay for her “outstanding public service leadership” and said she had “set the bar high for those following in her footsteps.”

A Republican, first elected at age 29, Rich is serving his third term on the West Amwell Township Committee. He and his wife live in West Amwell with their three daughters.

The Hunterdon County Republican Committee will hold an Executive Committee candidate screening on March 7, and the County Convention will be held on March 12 to officially decide the nominee.
