Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown senior residents welcome dining robots

Posted

The senior residents at Wesley Enhanced Living (WEL) in Doylestown might be forgiven if they do a double take when they see who – or rather what – is serving meals.

It is a robot, dubbed “Matradee,” making Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown one of the first Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) in the country to feature robotic autonomous food service.

Two robots, from Richtech Robotics, are currently offering easy access food delivery for senior residents in Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown’s dining room. “Robotics technology is the future of quality CCRCs. We’re integrating more accessibility options for seniors while solving the issue of industry-wide staffing shortages,” said Lynne Dukert, executive director of Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown.

The “Matradee” has designated tiers to hold trays of food. It uses a GPS to move around the room and the advanced software plots out table configurations. It is capable of scanning the environment to avoid bumping into people and obstacles while it travels on its own. An additional bonus is that it sings the “Happy Birthday” song to senior residents on their special day.

Richtech’s cutting-edge solutions are used by brands all over the globe, including Hilton, Nike and Keurig Dr Pepper. For information about Wesley Enhanced Living visit WEL.org.
