Wehrung’s Family of Businesses acquires Collegeville center

Posted

There’s something enduring about a family business.
As the third generation to helm Wehrung’s Family of Businesses in Ottsville, Jason Wehrung knows putting family first – from employees to customers to growing the firm’s footprint from Bucks into Lehigh and Montgomery counties – means finding like-minded family business owners to join him.
With the acquisition of Wehrung’s Collegeville in Montgomery County, the goal is to bring services and products from the diverse Wehrung’s Family of Businesses line to a larger, more regional audience.
“Family drives the growth of our business and family-owned businesses are a staple in the community,” said Jay Valentin, assistant vice president of retail at Wehrung’s.
All of the Wehrung’s family of businesses – from M&W Precast & Construction Supplies, Wehrung’s Specialties and Solid Products Marketing & Promotions – will be phased-in and available at the Collegeville store.
Valentin said Wehrung’s Fall Festival event is on Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wehrung’s Collegeville.
The event aims to provide family-fun activities like music, food, children’s activities, animals, raffles and free T-shirt printing, featuring a harvest and agricultural motif. The day’s activities offer an opportunity to support a local cause.
“The Fall Festival is our way to officially introduce Wehrung’s to the community and have some fun. We want to show the community this store is the same Wehrung’s they’ve come to know,” Valentin said.

Sebastian Riding Associates, a nonprofit equestrian children’s therapy organization will be there with their miniature horse Vinnie and will benefit from proceeds purchased at the event.
Visitors can buy from a list of store items to donate on the spot to Sebastian.
Wehrung’s purchased the Collegeville Do It Best Center in May, 2020 from Jamie and Michael Fanaro Jr. Their father Michael and uncles Ernest and Tony Fanaro founded the original Fanaro Brothers Department Store – a community staple – in 1955. Jamie Fanaro joined Wehrung’s as general manager.
“Family to family businesses have the same values…when a customer comes through the door, [we] recognize they can go anywhere,” Fanaro explained.
Offering great products and attentive customer service brings them back.
He said getting to personally know employees and customers sets many family business enterprises apart, while establishing enviable loyalty among customers.
“Taking care of customers is bred into you,” Fanaro said.
