Weavers Way creates beauty from nothing

Posted

As big grocery and corporations start to join efforts to tackle supply chain and emissions Weavers Way Co-Op has been doing it since its inception.

Most recently, the co-op has found a smart and timely way of embracing a zero carbon footprint in the form of a repurposed sliver of parking lot in its Ambler store, at 217 E. Butler Ave.

The hyperlocal, sustainable, planet-friendly tulips ($14.99), are available in several varieties such as Rainbow Parrot, Cabana Parrot, La Belle Epoque, and even a Philly Pastel Mix, and arrive just in time for National Nurses Day or that day when everyone will give the family matriarch a bouquet of spring blossoms.

The pesticide- and chemical-free, tulips were planted, tended to and grown by co-op members in a transformed sliver of green space in the parking lot.

The idea benefits the local community, the planet and the store, hitting all three cornerstones of the triple bottom line business plan of people, planet and profit that grocery stores believe in and to which they adhere.
