Watercolors and plein air painting offered at historic Phillips’ Mill

Posted

Phillips’ Mill Community Association presents two new in-person gatherings for art lovers and artists of all skill levels this month, at 2619 River Road, just north of New Hope.

“Art Focus: For the Love of Watercolors” will feature a panel presentation with watercolorists Jane Ramsey, Beth Schoenleber and Aida Birritteri along with small group breakaway sessions, demonstrations and discussions focusing on process, techniques, tips and materials.

Attendees are invited to bring a watercolor, in process or finished, to share with the group and for input from the panelists.

The event – taking place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26 – is free for Phillips’ Mill Community Association members, or $10 for nonmembers. Online registration is required for all participants. While on the website, consider becoming a member and register for free. Registration is limited to 30 and spots are going fast. Register at phillipsmill.org.

“Plein Air Sessions with Amanda Penecale” pays homage to Phillips’ Mill’s roots as the birthplace of Pennsylvania Impressionism. Since the spring of 1929, artists have come together to create and share their artwork on the beautiful grounds of Phillips’ Mill.

Artists of all levels are invited to do the same, joining art teacher, award-winning painter, and RISD graduate Amanda Penecale to paint the stunning, bucolic surroundings of the Mill at one, or all of three, sessions this summer.

All ages are welcome; participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Artists must bring their own supplies and set up. Chairs and access to public bathrooms will be available. Although not a teaching workshop, Penecale will provide creative and painting guidance, if requested, as well as discussion as you work. The suggested donation is $10.

Sessions are 9 a.m. to noon June 29, July 20 and Aug. 10. Registration is required at phillipsmill.org.
