Warminster Symphony Orchestra Presents “Scandinavian Sojourn”

Posted

Warminster Symphony Orchestra’s Saturday, May 21, concert at William Tennent Auditorium, 333 Centennial Road, Warminster, offers an escape to the magical lands of fjords, castles, forests and fairy tales.

The 8 p.m. program includes the ever-popular “Peer Gynt Suite,” by the Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg; the symphonic work, “Helios Overture,” by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen; the “Karelia Suite,” a work based on ancient Nordic legends and brimming with Finnish pride by Jean Sibelius; and a piece by Johan Halvorsen that is often billed as “The world’s most popular march” — “Entry March of the Boyars.”

And — as a special treat, soprano Holly Gash will recreate the role of the famed “Swedish Nightingale,” Jenny Lind. In her first appearance with the WSO, Gash will perform two beloved arias.

“Whether you are hearing Nordic classical music for the first time or are a longtime fan, you will be enthralled by our performance of this rhythmic and expressive style,” said Joseph Lovecchio, music director and conductor of the Warminster Symphony Orchestra.

“And, having acclaimed soprano Holly Gash embody the vocal legacy of the sensational Swedish Nightingale, Jenny Lind, will add a nostalgic thrill to the program.”

Tickets are $25 at the door, $22 in advance, and students with ID are $10. Advance tickets (cash or check only) are on sale at: John Cryan Jewelers, 673 Second Street Pike, Southampton, 215-357-8850; and M&H Framing & Gallery, 318 York Road, Warminster, 215-443-0968.
