Upper Makefield construction to start

Upper Makefield is moving forward with a project that will result in the renovation of the township municipal building at 1076 Eagle Road.

At a Nov. 19 meeting, the board of supervisors approved various contracts with the professionals who will be performing the work.

The project is expected to get under way within the next 30 days or so. Construction is anticipated to last approximately four months. Work will focus on making security and efficiency improvements to the decades-old building.

“We’ll be creating a secured space for office staff,” said Judy Caporiccio, Upper Makefield’s assistant township manager.

“The building was built over 30 years ago, and housed the police department. That space is now being used for the planning and zoning office. The renovation will create a more efficient work area for today’s use.”

Township administrative staff works out of the building, and will continue to do so during construction. The township doesn’t expect that the renovations will result in any disruptions for township residents wishing to visit the municipal building or contact staff, though access to the building will be modified with directions posted.

“While we don’t expect disruptions, we will post any unforeseen situations on our website if they occur,” said Caporiccio.

The contracts supervisors approved for the renovation work total $398,090. The township awarded the general construction contract of $308,090 to Premier Builders Inc. AJM Electric was awarded the $46,000 electrical construction. Hirschberg Mechanical will be handling the mechanical and plumbing construction for a combined $44,000 under the approvals.
