Two short films by California couple included in New Hope Film Festival

Heather Brawley and fiancée, Kirstie Muñoz have two short films in the New Hope Film Festival - one in the 2020 screenings, and one in 2021 screenings - and are traveling from California to attend the event.
“Our two films have racked up a cumulative 16 festival selections in the past year,” said Brawley via email.
Comedy “Feminist Theory and How it Relates to the Patriarchal Dividend” was filmed pre-pandemic and was directed by Katie Oliver. It was nominated in the Female Eye Filmmaking and LGBTQ Spirit categories of the 2020 festival.
A young lesbian couple wants to go out for a peaceful drink, but even in hip LA they’re left wondering whether they can go anywhere without getting propositioned by less-than-respectful people.
“Feminist Theory” screens as part of the festival’s LGBTQ Showcase taking place from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 23, at New Hope Arts Center, 2 Stockton Ave., New Hope. Tickets are at: bit.ly/3xOwDFD.

Drama “Loving Lenna” was filmed by the couple in quarantine and is written and directed by and starring Muñoz. “It offered something for us to focus on at a time that felt extremely overwhelming,” said Brawley.
A poetic narrative following Lenna’s discovery to self-love, the film addresses loneliness, the need to connect, and love lost and love found. Told through the unique combination of flashbacks, voicemails, and original poetry, “Loving Lenna” is the story of a woman’s journey through heartbreak to self-love.
“Loving Lena” screens as part of the Relationship show, taking place from 2:45 to 5:45 p.m. Saturday, July 31, also at New Hope Arts. Nominations for 2021 have yet to be announced. Tickets are at: bit.ly/3eCZoh2.
The festival runs July 23 to Aug. 1. For information and tickets, visit newhopefilmfestival.com.
