Treasure Trove Antique Shop celebrates 40th anniversary

The Treasure Trove Antique Shop is celebrating 40 years of business in Perkasie with a store-wide sale this month.

Bonnie Gehman and Dottie Kapusta opened the Trove in March 1980, on the corner of 7th & Market streets in Perkasie, which is the current location.

In 1985 Kapusta left the partnership to spend more time with her grandchildren. Eileen Hockman then became co-owner with Gehman.

The store was burned out in the Perkasie Fire in June 1988. Union National Bank, now Univest, donated the use of a warehouse to do the necessary cleanup and inventory of losses sustained, and to save what merchandise was salvageable.

In the fall of 1988, the store was able to reopen in a new location in Perkasie ... just a few blocks from the original location. This did not prove to be successful.

In 1992, the original location at 7th & Market became available and the Trove was able to return.

The Treasure Trove is an antiques and collectibles consignment shop, which is different than an antique co-op. The store’s merchandise comes directly from people who are downsizing or moving, or from estates where the families choose consignment rather than auction.

The inventory is constantly changing. The shop specializes in estate jewelry and also offers advertising items, postcards, vintage textiles, crockery, quilts, primitives, glassware and china, sterling, prints and hundreds of other items.

The Treasure Trove also offers an appraisal service for a fee. This is especially helpful when a family wants to divide an estate evenly.

The owners are very proud to have been able to own and operate The Treasure Trove for the past 40 years. They realized what a great place Perkasie is to live and work after they were burned out in the 1988 Perkasie fire. They described the love and support of the community as amazing.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the shops is having a store-wide sale (with some exceptions) the whole month of March.

The owners invite visitors to stop in and see the “vast array “of antiques they have to offer – and to take a trip down memory lane.

The Treasure Trove Antique Shop is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The shop is closed Sundays. For information, call 215-257-3564.
