Transformational photography on view in New Hope

Posted

Thanks to a special collaboration between the Pennsylvania Center for Photography and New Hope Arts Center the 6th annual Transformations Exhibition is showing at the Arts Center, 2 Stockton St, in New Hope. Dates are Aug. 13-Sept. 6.
The show is truly transformational and it takes photography into the present and prepares for the future. The show is exciting because of the use of creative digital art. It is the marriage of photography and modern graphic art computer technology.
In the past almost all photography shows featured standard untouched photos. Black and white was often preferred. The quality of the photo was determined by the chance encounter of the photographer with the subject and the printing method. The quality of a digital art piece is determined by the creativity of the photographer and the expertise in using modern computer technology.
In the past, people looked askance at using computer technology with photography. They thought it was cheating and easy. It is actually much harder than pure photography.

There are millions of alternatives available to create the final image. The only limit is the creativity of the artist. Yes, the photographer is an artist. There are also many alternatives to print the final image. It can be printed in enormous sizes. It can also be printed on a myriad of media. Not just paper, but also acrylic, metal, canvas, wood, fabric.
Digital art has come into its own and is now appreciated as an art form. Finally, after many centuries, photography and the photographer are now considered meaningful art and artists. Photographers no longer wait to find the image by chance. They create it through their own imagination and vision. Just like any artist and any art form.
Artist Pearl Mintzer lives in Solebury Township.
