HISTORY LIVES: Tops of Town

Posted

Tops of Town. A poster was designed in 2012 highlighting some of Doylestown’s most-recognized buildings. The creators saw a unique and beautiful world that’s different from the daily perspective — all you had to do was look up! Kevin Jameson, Mark Dauber and Mark Beard, all Central Bucks graduates, published “Tops of Town — Doylestown,” a poster that showcased photos of the eaves, cupolas and other features of the town’s rooftop architecture.

Fascinated by the variety of roof styles and ornamentations that surround the county seat, the trio chose 16 photos representing a varied selection of architectural periods. Included in the photos are the 1962 Bucks County courthouse; The Intelligencer Building (1876) on Monument Square; Central Bucks West High School (1952); Lenape Hall (1874); County Theater (1938); and 11 other “Tops.” The timing of the poster’s release coincided with the 200th anniversary of Doylestown Borough becoming the Bucks County seat of government.
