Tito Puente Jr. brings spirit of his father’s music to Bucks college

Posted

A musical legacy comes to Newtown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, when Tito Puente Jr. and his Latin Jazz Ensemble take over the Zlock Performing Arts Center at Bucks County Community College.

Puente Jr., who embodies the very essence of his iconic, award-winning father, leads the high-voltage Afro-Cuban concert with a mambo beat as part of the college’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage month.

Throughout this up-tempo concert, Puente Jr. will bring back classics that led his father to be crowned the “King of Latin Music” over the span of his 50-year career, including “Oye Como Va,” “Rank Kan,” and “El Cayuco.” He and his six-piece band will also perform selections from his latest CD, “Got Mambo?” as he takes a departure into some powerful new music he can truly call his own.

Puente Jr. has proudly carried the mantle of his father’s musical legacy since his passing 22 years ago.

Tickets for Tito Puente Jr. and his Latin Jazz Ensemble are $25, and free for Bucks County Community College students with current ID. VIP tickets for those 21 and older are $40. VIP guests receive entry into a pre-concert reception, including two beverages.

The concert is in the Zlock Performing Arts Center inside the Gateway Center building on the campus at 275 Swamp Road, Newtown. Parking is free. Tickets can be purchased online at bucks.edu/tickets.
