Letters to the Herald

The word “insurrection” fits

Posted

In the Herald letter to editor. “Use of word “insurrection” implies bias,” the writer objects to the use of that word to describe what occurred at the Capitol on January 6. I read an article in Time Magazine dated Jan. 7 titled “What the History of the Word ‘insurrection’ says about Jan. 6” by Hawa Allan.

That article describes the word insurrection, by definition, as a violent uprising against an authority or government. At least 140 Capitol police officers were reportedly injured. The crowd was truly violent and incorrectly described by the letter writer as “agreeably, there was an uprising or rebellion by some citizens who handled their concerns poorly.”
