The Jazz Sanctuary will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Routes 202 & 413, Buckingham.
Started by Alan Segal, a CPA who suffered a severe brain injury in December 2006, The Jazz Sanctuary provides free concerts to places of worship, charitable institutions, hospitals, retirement homes and more – Sundays through Thursdays.
Unable to speak, walk or read, following his injury, Segal began practicing his bass five to seven hours a day to recover his hand-eye coordination.
Along the way, he became an accomplished jazz bassist. And 2 1/2 years later, he began The Jazz Sanctuary to give back to the community that helped him.
His goal is to bring jazz to the community, educate jazz students who can’t afford the cost and pay musicians a fair rate for their effort.
Donations are welcome.
