The inaugural Art of the River Towns exhibition, sponsored by River Towns Magazine, is set to open at the Prallsville Mills in Stockton N.J., on Thursday, Oct. 1. In the weeks leading up to the show, the Herald will feature one of the local artists accepted for entry.
This week, we are highlighting Larry Chestnut of Hamilton, N.J.
“If you were to ask the artist Larry Chestnut what aspect of painting/art is the most important to him, he would tell you it’s all about the process – the intellectual and emotional endeavor needed to be creative and productive,” Chestnut says in his artist statement.
“Being a docent at PAFA made me realize that the world is and has been filled with talented and creative people and the most important thing is to be a part of the legacy,” he adds.
American artists like Beaux, Chase, Sargent, Henri, and Homer and local artists like Liz Ruggles, Peter Hunt and Bob Saxon have had a major influence on his approach to painting.
As for his paintings he states: “I’m constantly being surprised by what appears on the canvas before me, and that’s what inspires me.”

rivertownsmagazine.com.
New work will continue to be added through early October and the online sales gallery will be available until the end of October.
