The Art of the River Towns Artist of the Week: Gordon Nieburg

Posted

The inaugural Art of the River Towns exhibition, sponsored by River Towns Magazine, is set to open at the Prallsville Mills in Stockton N.J., on Thursday, Oct. 1. In the weeks leading up to the show, the Herald will feature one of the local artists accepted for entry.

This week, we are highlighting Gordon Nieburg of New Hope, who was 9 years old when his sister presented him with his first camera, a Kodak Brownie Reflex. Photography became an early hobby, with the family dog and his friends as the first subjects.

“Later, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and found himself in Japan during the Korean War. Full of fascination and curiosity with this new environment, Gordon felt compelled to capture on film what he saw, and his hobby turned into a passion,” Nieburg says in his artist statement.

“Always intrigued by the magic of New Hope, Gordon made it his home some 20 years ago when he retired as a high school teacher. He continues to find the town a rich opportunity to fulfill his passion, capturing scenes, events and people, and he has had the good fortune of being able to share many of these moments by working as a photographer for the New Hope Gazette followed by the Bucks County Herald and River Towns Magazine.”

Co-chairs Pearl and Chuck Mintzer, have helped to launch the Art of the River Towns Online Sales Gallery at rivertownsmagazine.com.

New work will continue to be added through early October and the online sales gallery will be available until the end of October.
